Never. Lose. Hope.
If you were like me, reading a book about Hell wasn’t the first on the TBR list. It might haven’t been ever on there, in fact, had I not forced myself to take a peek.
Yet, when I read the first few pages of Infernal Fall, however, I was immediately drawn into this incredible story. Filled with magnificent landscapes and beguiling characters, this modern retelling of Dante’s Inferno takes readers on a journey unlike any the have been on before.
The story begins with the main character Daniel Strong, who is considering asking his girlfriend to marry him on a hike into the mountains. The trek takes a terrifying turn, however, when Daniel climbs into a hole to investigate a strange artifact that catches his eye. Unknown to him, the strange stone he finds has the power to send him into the depths of Hell. Disoriented and shaken, Daniel finds himself in the company of Charles, a witty Demon with opportunistic intentions, and Beau, a celestial being who’s responsible for Daniel’s predicament. Charles convinces Daniel that the only way out of Hell is to travel its nine levels and negotiate with the god of the underworld, Satan himself, and ask for his freedom back. Daniel’s journey isn’t just arduous, it’s soul-draining. He confronts terrible creatures and individuals with heart-wrenching stories, demons who attempt to lure him into unsavory situations, and plenty of twists and turns that will cause you to recheck the locks on the doors before drifting off to a fitful sleep. There is also a heavy but resounding message of hope that permeates through Infernal Fall, one Bryan Timothy Mitchell weaves into every conversation and every decision Daniel must make as he traverses the levels of Hell. Readers will not only be thrilled with the depth of the plot and of the characters, but they will be encouraged as well. And, for those readers looking to find a strand of hope on the disintegrating rope of life, they may just find it here. I highly encourage you to check out Bryan Timothy Mitchell’s Infernal Fall and the sequel Almost Paradise. Don’t let the premise of the story scare you away–it is well worth the read.
