“I Feel It Again, The Pull to the Light”

As a fantasy writer, there are few things more enjoyable than diving into the reverie of the unrealistic and imaginary. Whether bizarre illusory worlds where the impossible happens, gargantuan sea creatures that swallow ships whole, or ancient beings with unimaginable magical powers, I have probably been there in my mind.

It takes imagination to write about the fantastical. The imagery and plot for my stories often come in the form of dreams or daydreams, or on occasion in the middle of church. When a truly powerful scene pours into my thoughts, my heart begins to beat faster and I am often left breathless and astounded at what my mind could make up.

Where do these scenes come from? How do I receive my inspiration?

Where do these scenes come from? How do I receive my inspiration? Easy. I stand on the shoulders of giants. I watch movies and tv shows, read books and comics, and go to comic cons. I do this not to copy what others have done, but to foster my own imagination–and to connect with others with the same goal.

Imagination is creative purposeful inspiring powerful

One of the ways we connect with other creative people is to go to Comic Cons and Book Fairs. This has not only been successful with book selling, but so much fun too! The only part that sometimes drives me crazy is having to stay at the booth when there are so many cool vendors and events around!

What? Me asking a Star Wars character to hold my book for a shameless plug? Never! Maybe just once…

…or twice. But honestly, who could say no to Kylo Ren?

Comic Cons are some of our favorite places to be. There are a ton of characters from all genres of SciFi, fantasy and Anime. The people you meet are really awesome, each with unique stories and interests.

Realm Makers 2021

One of the most fun cons we went to this year was Realm Makers. Not only was this a SciFi Fantasy book-lovers dream to attend, but it was a great resource for authors looking to advance their work. Workshops from famous authors, powerful guest speakers, and even a character awards banquet at the end! We did bring our costumes, but learned quickly we will need to step up our game next year. Who do you think Stacy and I should dress up as?

"I feel it again, the pull to the light."

We are each drawn to something that sparks our imagination. What is that for you? I firmly believe that in order to keep a healthy and imaginative mind, we must seek out that which interests us. Are you a writer? An actor? Artist? Each of has talent and creativity to contribute.

Perhaps you are like Kylo Ren, and struggle to find out where you truly fit. If that is you, I would like to personally challenge you to begin that search–to find your inspiration for imagination. It is a God-given gift, don’t let it be wasted!

I would love to hear what inspires you! Let me know by writing to me at: lightfollower@descendantpublishing.com

Standing Against the Darkness

You see it every day. The people you work with, interact with at the grocery store, church, or on the road. Empty. Discouraged. Defeated.

If you were to stop and ask them, they might tell you it’s something they are going through–a family issue, some financial concerns, cancer. But like you, they know it goes deeper than that. There’s something wrong with the world today.

Never. Lose. Hope.

If you were like me, reading a book about Hell wasn’t the first on the TBR list. It might haven’t been ever on there, in fact, had I not forced myself to take a peek.
