Lior: the Land of the Descendants

It is here, in the land of Lior, where good and evil meet, and the Light challenges the Darkness.

Deep in the heart of the darkest corners of Lior, a lone blue Light pierces the cold blackness. A hooded form stands resolute against the stifling cloud, his strength waining…

In Hebrew, Lior means “light.” And aptly named, for this is the fictional home of the followers of the Light, the Descendants. As the source of power for all Descendants, the curious Lazuli Light is found readily in vast underground pools, flowing through rivers, and streams and bubbling up from mountain springs.

What does Lior look like?

Long stretches of dune-laden beaches, immense pine forests of mysterious hidden artifacts, lush valleys inhabited by prehistoric creatures, and thundering waterfalls laced with iridescent blue light. This is only a tiny glimpse into the fascinating world of the Descendants.

Lazuli Pools – In one special place, hundreds of glowing blue pools dot the understory of an ancient humid forest. Crescent-shaped beaches grace some of the larger pools, making it a truly beautiful place to visit, if you can find your way around the jagged mountain peaks and sheer cliffs of the plateaus near the old city.

Jester’s Pass – Shaped like a hidden crater among towering summits, the Valley of Jester’s Pass is one of the most secluded places in Lior. Prehistoric creatures lurk beneath the shadowed canopy of the valley, and behemoth flying beasts float lazily on the foggy winds that drift down the mountainsides.

Warm Springs – Perched on the side of a mountain stands the proud and diverse city of Warm Springs. The name comes from a deep Lazuli spring within the mountain, which is heated by the volcanic Agam mountains surrounding it. Lovely inns and quaint restaurants bring in many visitors from around Lior, including some of the more conflicted Descendants, who have perhaps dabbled a time or two in the dark magic of those loyal to the lords of the Darkness. If you are able to stay away from Brahm Street, you will have a wonderful time soaking in one of the inn’s springs, which after a hard day traveling the mountain pass, sounds very relaxing.

Where is Lior?

The land of Lior hovers somewhere between the earth, and the Divide, believed to be the eternal home of the Creator. Soon after their emergence on earth, the new race of being, called the Descendants, quickly rose to power because of their unearthly gifts of strength and unusually long life. Humans believed this new race to be a threat to their existence, and took up arms against them. Some Descendants followed their Watcher ancestors who craved evil and destruction, but many of the Descendants wanted nothing to do with war, and instead sought peace.

Named in part for its rich reserves of Lazuli Light, Lior was created to become the home of the Descendants. Since it was decided that celestial beings were not meant to interact with humans anymore, those that were loyal to the Light were given the land to manage and protect, while awaiting the Creator’s return to restore humankind and celestialkind alike.

What is the source of power for the Descendants?

As a means to fight against the Dark One and his followers, the Descendants who followed the Light were given a very power gift by the Creator. The ability to manipulate and wield Light as a weapon, a shield, or a means of escape.

Curiously, a mineral called Lazuli found in abundance in Lior has the ability to enhance the gifts of Light when in close proximity. Its brilliant blue glow can be seen all over Lior, making it a powerful ally for the followers of the Light.

Standing Against the Darkness

You see it every day. The people you work with, interact with at the grocery store, church, or on the road. Empty. Discouraged. Defeated.

If you were to stop and ask them, they might tell you it’s something they are going through–a family issue, some financial concerns, cancer. But like you, they know it goes deeper than that. There’s something wrong with the world today.

If you were like me, reading a book about Hell wasn’t the first on the TBR list. It might haven’t been ever on there, in fact, had I not forced myself to take a peek.
