Meet Sam Forrester, main character of The Descendants of Light Series

“Sam Forrester, you are going to be faced with challenges here you never anticipated…”

Challenges. Jack Sterling’s words would soon become an understatement. Little did they know that they would both have to confront the most terrible evil.

“Challenges, such as, well, whatever you struggle with will be amplified here tremendously.” He sipped his coffee again. “I know you were thrown into this without really being asked, but there are things here … that will try and take advantage of your weaknesses.” ~ Jack Sterling, The Watcher Key

And take advantage of his weaknesses the Dark One certainly did.

Samuel Forrester. Fifteen years old, from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Then, with little explanation, he is sent up north to live with his grandfather in the tiny remote town of White Pine. His foster parents didn’t protest much–they simply put him on a train and watched him go.

From the time he was little, he remembers nothing about his biological parents, only that they died in a horrible car crash one late night. From there, it was an easy road to become the cynical, skeptical boy that trusted no one, and needed no one.

Until he met Emma Sterling.

“How did you find me?” He stared at her, wondering how she got through the dense pines so quietly. “I followed you,” she mimicked Sam’s expression. “You know, if you are trying to lose the world, you may want to look behind you once in a while to see if someone is following.” The Watcher Key

Emma not only convinced him to follow her to another world, but to trust her completely with his life. There was something about her that was different–not just her soft skin and strawberry red hair–that drew him in. She was one of the few people in his life that was authentic. Someone that seemed to understand him, and the pain he harbored beneath the surface.

Sam’s bitterness would follow him as he discovers the truth about who he is–and where he came from. As he soon learns he is a descendant of ancient spiritual beings, he must eventually confront that bitterness and overcome it. With the Light as his guide, and with Emma supporting him, he can eventually let go of his anger. But not before the Darkness threatens all that he has come to love within his new circle of friends.

Then with a voice that sounded like whispering thunder, he called out something in the ancient tongue, and the ground immediately began to rumble at Sam’s feet. In front of him, more Dark creatures began to emerge from the surface as though they had crawled their way through the dirt from deep below. ~ The Watcher Tower

With his newfound faith in the Creator, Sam Forrester is able to grow more confident in himself and others, even as the challenges become more difficult. His once angry, narcissistic nature slowly disappears, allowing him to become more outwardly focused. When those he cares about discover their own struggles, he is there to help them through.

The story of Sam Forrester is one of growth. But not alone. He discovers he needs others’ help–he can’t do everything alone. From the depths of bitterness and seclusion where he once found an empty solace, he is now able to claim true joy in love and friendship.

And now, the Creator can reveal His purpose for Sam…

Standing Against the Darkness

You see it every day. The people you work with, interact with at the grocery store, church, or on the road. Empty. Discouraged. Defeated.

If you were to stop and ask them, they might tell you it’s something they are going through–a family issue, some financial concerns, cancer. But like you, they know it goes deeper than that. There’s something wrong with the world today.

If you were like me, reading a book about Hell wasn’t the first on the TBR list. It might haven’t been ever on there, in fact, had I not forced myself to take a peek.
