"Seriously, what do you need now?"
Poke, poke. I feel the tap on my shoulder. “Can you help me with something?” Stacy says for the fifth time that day.
“Of course, dear. What do you need?” I say with absolutely zero sarcasm at all.
“I’m hungry.”
I do my best not to show my annoyance, because I know I am never the one to annoy her (Don’t believe that for a second).
“What do you want?” I sigh, closing the lid to my laptop.
“Oh, nothing much. Maybe some brie cheese.” She says sweetly. “And a Baja Blast from Taco Bell.”
I go and get my car keys and wallet because I know that absolutely nothing will get done until those requests are met. So off to the store and Taco Bell we go, leaving the heaping pile of tasks on our desks for when we return.
Of course, if you were to ask Stacy, I am ten times more annoying than she is. I am constantly asking her for little–and huge favors: Format this book please, draw twenty more illustrations please, create this business card please, order more stickers, please…
You get the point.
All in all, working side by side with Stacy has been an amazing blessing. We are both well suited to complement each other’s talents and personalities (I’m the sane one and she is just crazy), and even though we may annoy each other at times, it has been pretty awesome.
Another great feature about working with your spouse is that they can be your greatest ally when you are pursuing your goals. Sure, they might be your most ardent critic, but they can also be your most powerful kick-in-the-pants as well. When someone is trying to take advantage of your time or when there’s an especially tight deadline, they are willing to go to war on your behalf.
Stacy has been super patient with me as I re-format and enhance my first two books: The Watcher Key and The Watcher Tower to get them ready for audiobook formatting and a box set re-release this fall.
In addition, I dove into the second book of Demon Tide, and am really excited about where the storyline is going. I am shooting for a release of all three books yet this year (yep, I do believe I’ve lost it) along with the re-release of my first series, and hopefully an audiobook.
Okay, the last thing, then I’ll sign off for the night. I am considering doing a Kickstarter (thanks Brandon Sanderson) or maybe two to help garner some needed funds for these projects. I don’t really want to talk about how much publishing a book costs (much less an audiobook), but I’m already invested. So far, it’s been from a few generous people and my own savings that I’ve been able to get to this point.
But I think I will put myself out there yet again, and I would love to have you join me. If you enjoy reading my writing, consider investing with me on my next Kickstarter. Stacy and I will do our best to make it awesome. More on that later.
It’s nearly 10 pm, I’m signing off for the night. Maybe I’ll get another chapter of Demon Tide in before bed:)
