Writing Update March 2023

I've been labeled...

Happy (almost) Spring everyone! The trees are budding, and we are just about to the end of maple sap collection time in the great white north.

We have collected over 55 gallons of sap from our trees, and now have the task of boiling it down to syrup. With the amount of effort we put into it, sometimes I think it’s just better to get it at Costco.

But there’s something magical about being a part of the process from start to finish. To bite into that first blueberry pancake with homemade maple syrup? Oh, there are few things better than that!

In other news, I have recently been diagnosed with a “man cold” by my wife. She has been great to take care of me, but I’m sure I can be a pain when I’m sick. I figure it can’t last long, right? Warm weather means allergies, not colds, right? We will see…

In the writing world, Stacy and I recently did a “cleanup” (some rewriting) on the second book of the Descendants of Light Series: The Watcher Tower. Since we have learned much over the years, it was good to go through it and fix some of the prose to make it more clear–AND to ready it for something grander in the future. Is “grander” a word? (Quick look up on the internet) Yep. It’s a word.

With that said, we read through The Watcher Tower aloud, because… we are hoping to bring the entire Descendants of Light series to audiobook! Let the cheering commence!

When will this happen? As soon as funding and time will allow, of course. We are testing the Kickstarter platform for a potential push to get some really awesome projects out (Demon Tide series), so we might add on a level or two to for the audiobook as well. All of it is in concept mode, so it will be awhile. More on that later.

Oh! I almost forgot. The title of the update: “I’ve been labeled.” Apparently, I can now call myself a “Clean Fiction Author!”

The great folks over at Clean Fiction Magazine did a spread on The Watcher Key, and I’m really happy with the result, considering it was my first novel! By the way, Clean Fiction Magazine is great to check out if you are looking for great reads without all of the icky stuff some books have. Check it out here.

That’s it for now. I have outlined the book for Demon Tide #3, and plan to have it finished by summer. I’ll let you know how that goes:)

Signing off!

Standing Against the Darkness

You see it every day. The people you work with, interact with at the grocery store, church, or on the road. Empty. Discouraged. Defeated.

If you were to stop and ask them, they might tell you it’s something they are going through–a family issue, some financial concerns, cancer. But like you, they know it goes deeper than that. There’s something wrong with the world today.

Never. Lose. Hope.

If you were like me, reading a book about Hell wasn’t the first on the TBR list. It might haven’t been ever on there, in fact, had I not forced myself to take a peek.
