Writing Update November 2022

Troy Hooker's Christian Author Writing Blog November 2022

Bring on the turkey! I’m ready for a full day of eating all the fixin’s, and then groaning about it later. Hey, there’s antacid for that, right?

This month I decided to participate in NaNoWriMo. That is, National Novel Writing Month. Of course my wife Stacy talked me into it, and upon much protest, I agreed. Why would I protest writing, you ask? Well, I’m not entirely certain. I think it has something to do with forcing inspiration. Sure, it’s a noble challenge (50K words in one month), but I fear writing just for the sake of writing. The last thing I want to do is look back and shake my head at how terrible my writing was.

Quality, not quantity. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. That said, I’m still doing the challenge. So far I believe I am right around the 6K word mark. It’s not Brandon Sanderson speed, but I’m happy with it. Since there is about a week left of the challenge, I need to crank out just over 6K words per day to make my goal.

Probably not going to happen.

That’s okay, because I’m just happy I’m writing. I’m really enjoying where I am right now in the book. Things are getting interesting with Demon Tide. (By the way, if you want to read a bit of my latest writing, check it out below!)

That’s about it for now. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving God has given us much to be thankful for. Let’s also remember those in need this holiday season.

Oh, and just in case you are wondering about the photo, no, I didn’t see anything while hunting. Except, perhaps my fingers going numb. It was cold to say the least!

With that, I’m signing off.

Standing Against the Darkness

You see it every day. The people you work with, interact with at the grocery store, church, or on the road. Empty. Discouraged. Defeated.

If you were to stop and ask them, they might tell you it’s something they are going through–a family issue, some financial concerns, cancer. But like you, they know it goes deeper than that. There’s something wrong with the world today.

Never. Lose. Hope.

If you were like me, reading a book about Hell wasn’t the first on the TBR list. It might haven’t been ever on there, in fact, had I not forced myself to take a peek.
