Writing Update October 2024

Trying to Explain Demon Tide to Wary Readers

This past week we were at a writing conference for faith-based educators in Detroit and it was a blast. We met some awesome people and I was able to taste Nigerian food for the first time in my life.

We had several teachers & administrators stop by the booth to check out some of the series that we were selling. Many were intrigued in the Descendants of Light series as well as titles by other authors we published, but when they came across the promotional poster for Demon Tide, they raised a wary eyebrow at the name.

I was concerned when I titled it Demon Tide for that very reason. I knew I would have to explain to potential readers that it wasn’t filled with occultic elements or demonic themes necessarily, but was more of a teen-hunting-monsters-type storyline. Some nodded casually at the explanation, but others weren’t convinced!

Still Editing

Edits for Demon Tide book one are like trudging through the mud. Slow, and a bit painful. My beta readers did not hold back with their suggestions, but I’m thankful for it. It will only make the book better! The goal for release is still December of this year. I’ll have a pre-order link for Amazon soon, so keep watch for my next newsletter.

Recently, a writing friend challenged me to make writing more of a priority, so I plan to spend more time each day in the captain’s chair with the keyboard in front of me. If I am to get all of the stories in my head out in one lifetime, I better get moving faster! With that, I’m signing off!

Don’t forget to be the Light in the darkness!

Standing Against the Darkness

You see it every day. The people you work with, interact with at the grocery store, church, or on the road. Empty. Discouraged. Defeated.

If you were to stop and ask them, they might tell you it’s something they are going through–a family issue, some financial concerns, cancer. But like you, they know it goes deeper than that. There’s something wrong with the world today.

If you were like me, reading a book about Hell wasn’t the first on the TBR list. It might haven’t been ever on there, in fact, had I not forced myself to take a peek.
